Blade Emissions...
Hi,
I'm off for a pre SVA MOT on Friday and I've got my SVA on Wednesday. I have a 1993 blade engine in an Indy which will be on Q plates.
What emission limits do I have to pass? I read through the manual but it just confused me!
Anyone who had a similar setup or knows what limits will apply, please let me know
Cheers

Hi Adam,
What you want is to get the pre SVA MOT done as an 'unoffcial' MOT (my local garage called it a general inspection) as they cannot do an
emissions test as you don't get confirmation of the emissions it needs to pass until it is registered after SVA.
Also if they do an MOT then you will be on the system and will require an MOT every year from that date onwards and won't get the first three
years without one after SVA.
As for the SVA you need to prove that the engine is pre 1995 and you will basically not have to worry about emissions. YOu will need to prove that
the engine is pre 1995 to the SVA man though.
You can get confirmation from Honda directly but they charge you 30-40quid for the privelige.
What I did was find a number of Honda dealers and email them asking if they could confirm that my engine number SC..... is for a 1994 engine. Two of
them confirmed this for me by email but what you really want is to have it on Honda headed paper so I went back to them and politely asked if they
could put it on headed paper.
One faxed it for me and the other sent a word document, both on headed paper.
The SVA man accepted this no problem and it passed emissions fine.
Some people have also used the engine number table in the Haynes manual as proof of age but when I phoned my SVA office and asked if this would be ok
they said they preferred a letter from the manufacturer.
I think I still have a copy of the letters if you want some idea of what I got
HTH,
Rich.

Thanks shortie,
I'll try to get them to do an unofficial MOT then. I already have the letter from Honda confirming it to be a pre 1995 (1993 RRP) engine.
Is there no emissions test if its pre 1995 or is is so easy to pass becuase the levels are so polluting!?
I'm going to get some phots of the pre SVA car hopefully tonight so watch this space.

There are emissions regarding coming from the exhaust on your car. Noise!!! As said the emissions are so low compared to car it'll pass
this... as long as there is no visible smoke you'll pass ok.
Noise is the only problem with BEC... baffle it up well to keep those noise levels down

Hellfire is right, you will need to baffle it otherwise it will probably fail!
I had to, mine was 104.9db!

I was planning on using normal DIY loose wire wool and holding it in with a small bracket in the tail pipe. Is that what you guy's used?

It may do Adam - our's kept rocketting out when at 7000rpm. They were like little steel-rats escaping the heat! Don't mind the smoke
when you first put them in - it's just the protective oil burning off You aren't planning on driving all the way there with them in are
you... where's the fun in that?
