a good sva fail

hi,
had our sva on wednesday and it wasnt that bad. when he was finished the list of fails it was bout 12 items, then when he come back from doing the paper work the list went down to 8 items, all minor,

glue u rubber on,

sharp edges on exhaust, which im surprised and annoyed about because its from luego and cost alot of money..

the reverse and main beam light decided to stop working the minute he checked them.

a couple of wires liklely to chafe in engine bay

speedo out by 1 mph over .

handbrake rod adjuster locking device insecure.. (basically put a nyloc nut on)

fog light needs squaring up more, evan when we used a luego fog light surround which is ment to sort that out..

then finally we had no documents, to prove engine age, so he had to do the full emissions test, which failed quite bad as its an 83 pinto.

so not that bad really all can be sorted with a few extra hours of work and hopefully pass on the retest.

A happy fail then - at leas tyou now have a check list

Bad luck with the lighting... bet you were gutted!

Surprised he picked up on the speedo - could it have been a parallax error?

Regarding the Leugo bit's - just goes to show that spending more money doesn't justify it's compliance. Don't beat yourself up about that... regulations change constantly and it's difficult for manufacturer's to keep up sometimes. No excuse I know but mabe a reason!

Good luck for the re-test m8!

it was the radius edge on the can, one side is fine because it has a weld on it but the other is just pop rivits. but to honest i think our inspector was being very picky, becuase im sure lots of other luego exhausts hav gone throu alright.

unlucky but at least it's a easy fail sheet.

i'm suprised by the inspector for doing a full spec emissions check on a pinto, most use common sense of knowing they stopped production in 1990 ? mine did ask for it but i just produced a burton power catalouge which stated my engine number related to a engine built in 1983.

as for the exhaust can't you turn the can around or do they have a fixed tail pipe on the luego items?

Hi Moa
Hindsight is a wonderful thing I know, but if you had taken your Haynes manual with you, you could have proved engine age easily. Also speedo??? Mine was average 5mph over all up the range - he said this was OK, just not allowed to under-read. Strange.
Best of luck for the retest.
Pete
P.S. On the RHOCaR forum, main site, in the NW Hoodies section, there is a page you can download (which came from Ford Customer Services) which gives you not only the year, but the month as well. HTH

if its sierra running gear you can change the speedo readout temporarily by swapping the diff ratio up, ie from 3.6 to 3.9

Moa,

I just got my Velocity through.

My exhaust was fine not even a mention. It too is a Luego one and is welded one end and rivetted the other.
I got the Luego Fog and reverse through but when i fitted them i twisted them slighlty to get them square (some pics are on my site)
I have a 86 pinto I wrote to Ford and they promptly sent me an official letter saying what the age was. The address is in this forum somewhere or i will dig it out for you if you want.

Hope this helps

Phill
