SVA Fail at Newcastle
Took the car up to Sandy Lane for it's SVA this morning. (God I don't like driving through rush hour traffic in Newcastle in a Seven with
no number plates.)
To cut a long story short, it failed. Mostly on not insulating terminals, insecure wiring, sharp edges and noise (104db!).
Got to get my head back under the bonnet and get it sorted, but at least I now have the list to work to.
One thing that did seem a bit harsh was the edge of the MK bodywork, between the scuttle and the rear arch doesn't conform to the 2.5mm radius.
I have aluminium trim around the inside edge, but thought the outside would be OK. Inspector suggested a bit of 1600 grade wet would sort it out?
Does this sound OK.
However I can confirm four things:-
1. 70mph + no screen + cheap shades = eyes hurt.
2. The Indy corners like nothing else I've ever driven, dry road, R888's and loads of grip. (Roundabouts are fun!)
3. It goes like stink off the line, up until rule no1 comes into play.
4. It weighed in at 420kgs, with a full tank of gas, but no driver.
God I loved driving the long way home from Gosforth to Heaton, in a Seven, with no plates on, in the sunshine!
Cheers
Mike

i don't half agree with number 2.
hard lines on the fail, but at least you get another barely legal drive. i'm sure the barely legal ones are about 3 times as much fun!
time for some decent sunnies then. oakley m frames rule if you've got a bit of brass to put towards.

How'd you work it out to 420Kg?
Do not go off the SVA axle weights... I put one leg on my bathroom scales, 1 leg = 20Kg's. So does no other leg... but I don't weight
40Kg's.
Unless you lift the whole thing off the ground or have all four wheels on a weighbridge (or the like) you will be needing to calculate your weight.
Our's calculated to 414Kg at SVA but it was nearer to 500Kg when weighed properly.
Bad luck BTW - but as you say, you know have a checklist... good luck!

Guiness, That actually sounds like a nice fail. From your post sounds easily sortable. Do you fancy scanning your fail sheet into your photo archive
so i can take a gleg at it. Ill be facing Gosforth in the near future so would appreciate the heads up / account of your experience there.
(If you dont want to post it i understand).
Did you drive direct from Gosforth to Heaton??????? Me thinks you may have taken long way. Ill be driving from Bishop Auckland up the A68. Perhaps im
being a tad optimistic!!
Good luck for the retest. my fingers are crossed for you.
