Engine swap / DVLA / V5 ... urgent

Hello,

(question from Belgium)

If you change the engine on a UK registered kit car with an increase in power and capacity (for example : 1600cc 4 cyl replaced by 2000cc V6), I suppose you need a new V5 (or V5C) if you want to sell the car?!

How do you get the new V5 with the right engine number on it? Do you simply have to apply for a new V5 document notifying the change of engine or do you have to pass a new SVA test or a MOT before?

On the DVLA website I can find application forms for a new V5 but there is no place to notify the engine change.

There is also an application form for a "Certificate of permanent export" that a new owner (abroad) can use if the previous owner did not give him the V5 or if the V5 is lost. On this form there is a blank to fill in with the engine number but I suppose it is only for the DVLA to be able to check if it's the right car and engine.

I ask this because I plan to buy a kit car in UK and change the engine. I can't change the engine in Belgium after the import ... not allowed after the registration here.

But I can register a kit car in Belgium if I have a V5 document with all the correct numbers on it (chassis and engine) !!!!

Info needed asap

Thanks

It's on the V5 itself - you make the changes directly on there and send it back to the DVLA

If you are moving into (down) a lower tax class (sub-1300cc, as bike engines typ.)you will need to have evidence (e.g. photos, supplier confirmation) of the engine size. Apart from the foregoing it is just put in the new number and capacity and send it off - they are more concerned with you fitting a stolen engine than anything else. HTH
