Registeriing a car after SVA
I have me SVA retest tomorrow which I hope to pass. I have my forms ready to be filled in with details from the MAC. What do I do then to register
the car? Go to the registration office with the forms and then get the car inspected by the DVLA or the other way round?
Do you get the reg number after the inspection? If so, do you have to go back the the DVLA office again to get the number allocated?

Good luck with the restest
Good luck with the DLVA as well... with my local office I had to make an appointment in advance - they didn't let me just turn up. In my case
they had the paperwork in advance (except the MAC, of course). On the day I went to the office, someone came out to check the VIN number matched the
form, then they picked a reg number and I paid up for the tax disc.
Just re-reading your post: to be clear, in Maidstone, the inspection and the paperwork happened on the same day in the same place.

In Birmingham you can just turn up at the office. I hve been there already to collect the forms. I asked about inspection and they said that I have
to go to the MSVA centre for this.
My query is do I have to get an inspection before submitting my paperwork to the office or do I have to go to the office first?

I picked up the forms from the DVLA office (Shrewsbury) then booked an inspection for the same day as the SVA. It made sense to do this as the car was
on a trailer. Inspection took place at the DVLA office.
The car didn't pass SVA but it was inspected anyway and paperwork submitted.
After the re-test I went down with the MAC and got the registration done.
The rules have changed now (last week) and DVLA Shrewsbury no longer inspect at their office - they use the SVA testing station....

Unless they are standardising everywhere, I think it depends from place to place

Submitted my forms at the DVLA office today and got an inspection date for next Thursday. Birmingham only inspect on Mondays and Thursdays at the
VOSA MSVA station.
Just what do they inspect? Do I have to keep my cat on for the inspection or will they not care / notice?

When i had my inspection at home they just had a look to make sure it was a car, built with new chassis, checked donor bits appeared to be from car
on V5 and checked chassis number. No roadworthy checks were conducted.
