Design Speed
The SVA manual says a speedometer has to be marked and calibrated up to the "design speed" of thr vehicle however I can't find
refference to how this is determined.

I'm guessing that the design speed is the max speed you have designed the car to go, (including the rating of the tyres !!!!)
So as long as the speedometer could read a greater speed than that of your cars ability it should be ok.
That vague enough ??

I put 100mph too, this is what they use to check the rating of the tyres. I can't think of a speedo that reads less than 100.
(oh yes I can, old Mini!)

Workout what speed peak power rpm is in 4 th and use that.

I put 100mph on mine, the SVA tester said 'who the fcuk are you trying to kid' and laughed. He said as long as the stated speed was less
than the rating of the tyres it was not a problem.
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

the BOOK, 2nd edition, lists engine size (1100 - 1600?)and max speed, why not use those as starting point? Obviously if you have carzy tune engine it
would exceed that by a little bit.
Bear in mind as already said, your tyres have to be rated to at least that speed.
I am not sure what the SVA will say but if you put 70 mph, since that is the speed little, IMO that should not be acceptable as it should be
realistic.
