at what age of engine do you need to fit a fuel cap restrictor, or do you have to fit one anyway ?

Could be wrong but I think if you need a CAT or ABS you need a fuel restrictor.....someone will, no doubt, correct me if I'm wrong....HTH Oli.

if your engine runs unleaded you need the unleaded restrictor iirc.

any engine that has to run on unleaded needs an unleaded restrictor. That includes any car with a cat, which includes all engines from 95 onwards.
As for older engines, I couldn't say.

Emphasis on "has to" in that statement - my x-flow can now run on leaded or unleaded, but I don't need a restrictor.

A restrictor only needs fitting on vehicles that require a CAT test. ie, with engines from 1st August 1995 onwards.
Engines prior to the above date do not need restrictors, regardless of whether they run on unleaded or not.
