RE: Frontal/side impact SVA test

Does a custom car that I design and build have to pass any "crash" tests or is it to the disgression of the tester to say it is safe? This is the only thing I'm worried about really because the rest looks to be just like an MOT really, working brakes/lights/seat belts/no sharp bits/emissions etc.

Thanks for any help, hope to be building soon!

It is only production cars that have to be subjected to crash testing. Your kit car is put through the SVA test to determine if it is 'safe' - don't panic

Sounds like a long shot but if that is an issue I am sure the Aussie mods would take care of any problems.

I've not heard anything about the stiffness test (oh I say matron!) but it shouldn't affect any of us really since I've not heard of anyone on here building WITHOUT a space frame.... and since the space frame is by its nature far stiffer than a ladder frame I don't see that there will be a problem.

Although I'm always happy to be proven wrong (it gets boring being right ALL the time )

Amateur built vehicles.

We are not classed as volume builders. TVR don't have to pass crash tests, why should we. Stop scaremongering.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

The Locost chassis is nowhere near stiff enough to pass the Aussie ADR test which is why the likes of Cymtrics have come up with all their mods.
So if a stiffness test was brought in here (and I'm not saying it will or that I've heard of any plans to)!!! then it'll take a few mods to The Book chassis to get it to pass.

Cheers,
James
