SVA Fail - Carlisle

Some minor things, the front track rods needed some padding in between the rubber cover and the nut cos he could still feel the metal nut underneath.

A couple of bolts where a bit too short, which I should have spotted anyway.

Didnt bat an eye lid at my bias bar which had cap head bolts all the way through, he did ask me to take them out so he could check they werent soldered in at each end.

None of the minor things surprised me, there where about 4 or so trim issues over the car, nothing major, however I also failed on the brake hoses, not the braided ones, those where fine, but the ones between the master cyl and the reservoir, they arent marked, unfortunatly i bought them from Luego, so i dont think there is any chance of me getting the box or something that says they are ok for brake fluid.

I also found my front left caliper was a bit sticky, and failed on the inbalance, i suspect since its been sitting for 6 months the pads are a bit stiff, he could still lock up the wheels etc though.

The chap Andrew is a nice bloke, and was happy to discuss the way to solve the problems so it should be a doddle to fix once i get the bits.

Had an eventful trip there, slept through my alarm for about 20 minutes, forgot my toolbox, came back, left again, engine started f*cking up big time, stopped, bonnet off, fiddled with choke, mixture, you name it, waved a few dead chickens, and sacrifeced a goat, then it was sort of ok again up to about 3000rpm where it misfires like hell.

The way back was slightly more predictible, same as above but with the odd bit of detonation to boot.

Oh well

Made it home via some nice little back roads though, was really chuffed with the cars handling, its nice and smooth, doesnt jump and bounce like i thought it would.

Wooohooo!

David

Sorry about that.
At least there are only a few easily fixed problems. So you should be out on the road soon.
Nice to see others having an interesting time getting to the test

That's almost a positive result... easily rectified and then you're off!

This is where I got my brake reservoir hose. They also have an online hose spec which you can print off as proof.

Bad luck on the fail but sounds like an easy fix.

Used some silicon inside the track rod to end gaiters to give them a bit of "body" if you smear the track rod before filling the gaiter it will not stick and makes tracking adjustment easy.

Rusty means smear the track rod and end with grease, to stop the silicone from sticking to it. ie as a release agent.
