Fuel tank level.

Other than a fuel gauge, what have you guys used to satisfy the SVA chap of your means of telling that the fuel tank is full? My filler is attached to the top of the tank so you can see straight to the bottom of the tank.
Will a dipstick do for instance?
Cheers.
Steve.

You have to present car for SVA with a full tank of fuel for weighing. As for a fuel gauge requirement not sure on that one.I would have thought as long as you can see how much fuel you got in tank by looking through filler, this would be satisfactory.

from what i understand you need a way of "seeing" how much fuel you have, so i supose a long stick would do, dip stick style, however i'd want a guage in mine so i know when i'm going to run out.

Thank for the replys, I have never had a fuel gauge on any of the motorbikes I have owned and I have never ran out of petrol, I wonder how many people really trust their fuel gauges when they get down to the dreaded quater tank level. I have probably started one off now

Tester just asked me if it was full and I said 'Yes'.

Er comparing a BIKE FUEL TANK and a CAR FUEL TANK is a bit like comparing an Apple with a Pear

You can INSTANTLY tell if your bike has petrol or not - by sitting on it and leaning it from side to side - you hear the petrol - failing that remove the cap and look in - conveniently located.

On a car - undo harness, out of seat, check fuel level, back in seat, re-do harness - i should imagine it would get very tiresome

But hey - your car, you do what ya wanna - that's the beauty of it

Just fill the tank with fuel and set the trip. Take a small jerry can of fuel with you. Hammer it everywhere you go and see how many miles it does on a tank full of petrol. Use the mileage as your gauge. So long as you set the trip every time you fill up, it ain't a problem.

We used that method to good effect with the Blade engined Indy. This ZX12R engine is a bit more posh though and comes with a fuel level display.
