MOT - Fog & reversing light

At SVA the fog light has to be vertical & rearwards facing

What are the requirements at MOT. Does it only need to be operational.

Does the reversing light (if present) only have to be operational.

Its just last night the plastic bracket on my reversing light sheared off (i'll tell you how privately if you wish) and instead of buying a new one, I was hoping to drill through my bodywork and mount both fog & reverse to the slightly inclined boot.

I think that for MOT the fog light just has to be functioning. Hope so, as I changed my SVA bracketed one for a rear panel mounted one the same as what you are suggesting.

Re reversing light - not sure but I would guess it has to be working if it is there

Mine passes with them on the rear panel without any comment. I changed them 3 years ago.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Thanks rusty but if it did have one would it HAVE to be vertical or just operational.

I'm getting the impression it only needs to be operational for MOT (not that I'm having one soon)

Jos - did you use the £4 lights off Mark with the plastic brackets??

Ive knacked 2 so far - they are weak when using your rear boot cover for recreational purposes. Did you belt buckle get snagged on the bolt??????
I just glued mine back on with bond and seal (the lights that is!)- jobs a good un for now.

I used the MAC#1 fog & reversing light and I think they had metal brackets with a hollow plastic feature to the light back.

I'm going to drill three holes for each, 2 to mount and 1 for cable in my rear panel and mount them to the body work rather than on the brackets theyve got or are on now.

I'll wait for an email from Rich before doing so just incase I have problems later on if the fog light HAS to be vertical
