Boot cover necessary for SVA?
Before I crack open the sewing machine (and the instruction manual! ) do I actually *need* a boot cover for SVA?
And if I do have one then is 'just' a vinyl cover ok or does it need to be viny over something rigid?
If I don't have one then I suspect I will have to cover all the projections inside the boot. In which case a cover is less effort.
There's a post about this already but I'd like to hear if there are other people who've passed/failed with or without them. And
whether radii inside the boot where checked if not.

i passed with just a soft cover held down with press studs. no hard support, inside the boot was not checked apart from wiring.

jim,
at my sva('s) none of the testers passed comment on the boot bit (inside the rear tub). I wouldn't worry about it !

You do have the risk that the tester will take it upon himself to go into the bootspace looking for sharp edges.
I rigged up a temporary cover out of 22mm external grade MDF, screwed into 19mm square section steel tube that just fitted under the top tubes of the
boot space. Took me an hour or two to rig up, another hour to shape the edges with a router to make it look nice, then painting. It ended up looking
very tidy - and as if it was a permanent fixture.
It was meant to be temporary, but stayed on for a year until I made a proper boot space!

From my experience if a panel is not permanently fixed then they can ask you to remove it for inspection.
So my vinyl boot cover fixed by poppers was removed so they could check the wiring and fuel tank. My alli pedal box cover fixed with self tappers was
also removed.

It is another one of those inconsistencies....
I was told that the boot was not tested at all, in fact you don't even need a boot floor!
A quick get round is to bolt on some MDG on top as someone suggested and sort it out later; the route I may have to go as my progress has groung to a
halt.

There's no boot floor at all in mine, just a rigid cover made from alloy with an access hatch - was ok at my sva.

I'm pretty sure a boot floor isn't needed, but a cover is a good idea if you don't want Mr SVA poking about in there with his radius
gauges.

Mine failed yesterday in Aberdeen for not having a hard boot cover. SVA man said someone could put their hand inside it and it was dangerous. Failed
on a few other things not to mention the use of cable ties - apparently he doesn't consider them permanent so they all have to go! along with
the pipe lagging under the dash. Seems the best solution will be to get some 40mm dowel and cut it down! I think he was probably a bit harsher than
most! Oli.
