Getting to (and from) the SVA

Am I correct in thinking that provided you have third party insurance based upon your engine number. You can drive to a pre booked SAV test, and if it fails (but not declared death trap) you can drive it home?

Yes can be driven to a prebooked SVA or prebooked MoT provided its insured and its normally the chassis number thats required by insurance company.

Use Footman james. Adrian flux are pants. They only give you 30 days on a chassis number before you have to supply a reg number. Otherwise they cancel your insurance and keep all of the premium
Footman will also do build insurance.

Yes definatly worth knowing! I heeded this advice, but unfortunatly FJ were £345 and AF was £199 (£245 with breakdown cover).
FJ would not budge on their price, but AF did suggest that an extension MAY be negotiated, if it did run to the wire.
So, Ive got 30 day to get it registered

FJ won my vote.
Incidently, AF do not honour agreed valuation until a Reg number is given, so if you have an accident on the way to sva, you will need to argue over the insurance claim.
They did not tell me this when I paid for the policy and I only just noticed this when wading through the bundle of paperwork that they sent me. Luckily I cancelled the policy just before it was due to start.

I used Graham Sykes, and it wasnt any bother (3 attempt at the SVA). However, they only gave me two weeks to get it registered. Got several "std" letters, But Phoned them regularly and kept them updated, and all went well, once they understood, that I WAS doing what I said.
They did want a shed load of paperwork, including, certificate for thatcham imobiliser, right down to my inside leg measurement
I think the key is to have good dialogue with the Insurance Co... and LOTS OF IT. ie dont ignore them, and keep them informed every step of the way.

It worked for me.
£188 Fully Comp.

Me and the missus driving. 5k miles. via KGM Insurance (G-Sykes are the broker).

I had build insurance with Adrian Flux at £40 per year. I rang them when the SVA was booked and they charged me £27 per DAY for the run to and from the test (one day up and one back down, I live near Penzance and the test was in Exeter). I paid up as the years policy was only £189 after the pass, but it was a bit stiff for £54 for 2 days and £189 for 365 days.





If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation
