bike speedo .... planning ahead....

wondering whether I should get a bike speedo in case my speedo doesn't work?

The first time it will be tested is on the way to SVA; and if it doesn;t work, then I can stop and fit bike speedo in - good or bad idea?

I can't think of any way to test it without jakcing up the rear and and spinning the engine but turning the prop many many times will at least show that it is connected and that the mileageometer is working, although won't tell me how accurate.

if I put a sticker over t he speedo, will Mr SVA be happy and test the bike speedo insteads?

Bike speedo

When you say bike speedo is that digital or dial faced? Will it Illuminate etc? Is it able to indicate speeds up to the vehicles maximum design speed? Is it secure? There are many pitfalls in this plan.

I have fitted a Sigma Targa bike speedo to my Indy. It will accuratley read up to 185 mph Has miles covered and trip and I have made it so it is illuminated when the lights are on, Piece of cake.

i did my speedo with the car on axle stands and ran it up in top gear at a 1000 rpm. did the maths and worked out a figure for mph/1000 rpm. the easiest way of doing the math was with a program i downloaded from the quaife america website (www.quaife.com). it lets you input gear ratios, final drive ratio and tyre type or circumference. also running up on axle stands allowed me to tweek the pick up to get the steadiest reading from the toothed wheel. just remember to chock the front wheels. mja

If you're worried about accuracy on the day of your test most of us examiners are pretty accomodating during the test. If it needs a little fine tuning and it can be done without dismantling then just ask.

well what a guess! Funny thing is, i haven't a clue where Mitcham is, just heard it mentioned a few times recently.

Well, welcome to the fold. Are you building or just interested in what we talk about?

Working on cars all day long really puts me off building one, but I have a keen interest and I like to advise and help where I can, its that customer focus that I have become so famous for at Mitcham.
