£38 registration fee. I posted my letter back, but don't see why you shouldn't take it along when you register the car.

If you've passed SVA and have a chassis number then you can just turn up to register. Your registration number, ie Q or age related will depend
on the documentation you have, and their interpretation of it.
You'll probably have to wait a couple of days to receive a number plate authorisation, because that's how long it takes to enter your
details on the computer, apparently!
But as with all thinge related to DVLA, it depends which office you're dealing with.

is there a form you use to apply for a VIN number or do you just write to them asking for one to be issued?

Ring up DVLA "local office number" and you'll get through to Swansea. Tell them what you want and they'll send you all the
leaflets and forms. They'll also get your local office to ring you.
