P-clips - Type and spacing
Hi.
Before I fit my brake/fuel pipes, are there any SVA ptfalls to be had using plastic p-clips rather than rubber lined alloy items? Also, what entres
should the clips be at?
I have purchased the latest SVA book, but it's not clear as to what they're looking for in terms of materials, just that the pipes are
supported at regular intervals (I was thinking 200mm to be safe, but the fewer the better if I can get away with it)

300mm is the max spacing.
I used plastic p-clips on some of my pipes and it was fine.

Hi mate
ive used plastic p clips for both fuel and brake which where supplied in kit + my build manual states no more than 6 inches from clip to clip

I used plastic P clips for brake and fuel lines and spaced at 8" centres. Passed OK.
Maximum is 300mm but I went for closer spacing because it worked out best aesthetically and was much more secure. Only used a few extra clips.

I put mine a hand-span apart - roughly 220mm according to my ruler!
In some places I varied this a little bit, to get even spacing along a particular part of the chassis (all part of the 'impress the
tester' bullsh*t).

I'm going with a 'less is more' approach to my build, and this counts right down to the amount of p-clips I want to use - working on
the basis that just enough to get by is perfect, but any more than that is over engineered.
SVA doesn't make this principle very easy to stick to though!

All mine is clipped with plastic p clips about 25mm apart. Havent had it tested yet but im sure it will pass.

I suppose if the standard says max 300mm and you go with 299mm, you'd still pass (will it help to hide a chocolate digestive or two for the
tester to find?)

Really? 1inch spacing? or is that a typo for 250mm?

I assumed typo - either that or a hell of a lot of p-clips (new sport - Xtreme SVA!)

"night before panic padding the sharp bits"
"spirit level adjustment of fog lamp to vertical"
"stuffing bits of perforated steel up the exhaust"
with the highlight event of the "2 hour sweat"
and of course the final event of:
"pulling off the uglier bits of padding"

I'm betting there's a 3 mile radius around every SVA centre where all hedgerows and ditches are full of foam pipe lagging covered in black
nasty tape and bits of radius'd balsa wood!
