SVA & MOT croydon/wimbledon

Just been onto DVLA and they have told me that i need to get registered in this order:
SVA car
Get Mac, fill out V55, get insurance cover note, 'MOT', and then take down or post to Wimbledon DVLA, then if they think it needs an inspection they will organse one.

Was told that i must have an MOT?!?!?!?!

This is not how donut had both his cars done!

Has anyone any ideas or contacts to get round the MOT or get inspected before SVA?

No logic to MOT cars which have already gone through SVA, though an MOT test before the test is useful as an excuse to take it on the road and for a few preSVA checks etc (headlights, emissions etc). But if, as in my case, it fails on something simply fixed at home, the only real advantage of restesting it is to keep DVLA happy. Ask them (ie DVLA) what they expect it to show that the SVA won't.

Seeing as they only want to see you post SVA I'd just turn up with the MAC, proof of insurance, and the registration payment and if they request MOT ask them what they expect it to show. If in doubt they'll ask for one (cos they're too lazy to find out the rules) but if you request the reasoning they'll usually take the lazy route of deciding you don't need one.... Worked for me, anyway....

It's certainly not how I did it at Wimbledon!

I got everything arranged *before* SVA then went on to them straight after the test.

Who did you speak to?

Harsha is the lady there who really knows her stuff about kit car and was incredibly helpful with me! Made dealing with DVLA a pleasure not a chore!

All the best,
James

EDIT: Can you MOT before you've had the chassis number/plate? Will it go through the system without?

Des and i have been told loads of differing info but it's all sorted now, kind of. I think 3 different people told us that an MOT was definitely required and another person said it wasn't. I wish they would make up their minds!!

Policy Department

Tell them that you think they are mistaken in requiring an MOT before registering the car and ask them to speak to the Pl[olicy Department at Swansea.
This advice was given to me by my SVA inspector when he gave me the MAC certificate, if I encountered any problems with registration. This was 3 months ago and fortunately I did not have any problems and did not need an MOT, but it was a different DVLA office.

They will send reminders but presumably require a valid MOT certificate to re-tax. Something to avoid when the cost is £50 a year for 3 years.
