This will probably open the floodgates - it seems like every DVLA office/person has their own opinion.
To start the ball rolling, from the DVLA's own website:
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/Mot/DG_4022112
Quote:
----------------------------------------------------
if a vehicle is registered with no prior use on the road, the MOT will be required three years after the date of registration. For
example, a vehicle registered "from new" on 25 April 2000 will require its MOT no later than 25 April 2003
----------------------------------------------------
Next, please!

I know a bloke with a tiger which was sva'd last year. He went to tax it recently and they want an mot. Apparantly because its on an age
related plate it will have an mot every year from registration. He was told originally that it woiuldnt need one for 3 years.
It all depends who u speak to on the day.

You do not need an MOT before your SVA. Once you have passed the SVA, wether you are a Q, age related or new plate, you first MOT is required after
3years, just as if you have purchased a brand new vehicle. Swansea know this but not all the local offices are that bright, but complain and do not
fall into the MOT trap!!

sorry marshall you are wrong
when you pass your sva it is like a new car no matter what the reg Q, D, 07 etc
the dvla will tax your car with all your registration paperwork otherwise how would new cars get road tax
all this is going to do is keep confusing people especially as me and Mac1ZR keep answering the question yet people seem to not want to believe us..
if you want to go listen to the people who havent even built there car yet feel free
That is not intended to graemeMK etc as he is right!!

mot/sva
Just had my sva and was told that i now need a mot because things like ball joints, bushes and play in stearing rack was not tested, as sva man never
put it on jack, so common sence tells you to get a mot just incase.

You don't need one, honest!
I would hope everyone fits new ball joints and track rod ends though as a matter of course.
Incedentally, SVA don't test tyre tread depth or horn either.
I've been driving quite happily for the last 3 years with no MOT. No problems getting it taxed (online) either.

MAdteg the dvla website states this
so were all wrong and registered our cars at the dvla wrongly thats why they gave us the paper work
all it means is they will hassle you every yesr for an MOT when you dont need one

OK approach it differently get yourself an MOT precheck so have an MOT but make sure you tell the MOT man not to enter any car details into the
computer and not to give you a MOT paper after

SVA'd and registered last June, age related plate and the guy dealing with the registration at Brighton DVLA assured me that I would not need an
MOT for 3 years.
I did have a precheck MOT before SVA, no details entered on the computer.
