Reconditioned engine?

Just reading the engine proof of age thread and was wondering where i stand.
the whole point in building my car was to use the newly recond 1.6cvh efi engine I had put into my mk5 escort (and registered the change with the dvla) a year before I got a new car. as the engine is not original to the donor car will this case me a problem with the age? I currently have the escort on sorn (but not the car) have the documents for it and the chasse plate from the slam panel. will it still be related to the original year of manufacture or when the engine was fitted?

The age proof is based on the engine number only. There is no relation to the cars ID.

Send the engine number off to Ford Tech and they will send it back pronto.

I sent mine by fax and got the letter with the good news the next day

So when using the points thing for keeping the donors registration number you can just lie and claim it all came from the one car...

no need to write to ford; a copy of burton power catalogue which has ford engine mumber/year table is sufficientto show to SVA man.

if you have no engine number, then it becomes harder ....... much much harder.

ooow! ok where do i get a number for Ford Tech do I just call the local dealer? Did you have to pay for it? so it could be older than the donor interesting? As long as its not newer. It must have a number as i registered the change. come to think of it i think i remember looking it up when i got the engine to see where it came from as it had the wrong rocker cover ok so more investigation needed then.

Is that number stamped into the block or cast into it??

That looks like a number that would be cast into it.... Which isnt the engine number.

ok i think its this one LU69 808 last 3 digits are a bit hard to read from what i have found this makes it a oct 1990 ?

When selecting an engine for your kit, it is essential to know it's date of manufacture. Engines manufactured before August 1995 are able to pass the SVA without a catalytic converter.

Ford engine numbers take the form of 2 letters followed by 5 numbers. The first letter determines the year on manufacture.

L = 1990 M = 1991 N = 1992 P = 1993 R = 1994 S = 1995 T = 1996 V = 1997 W = 1998 X = 1999 Y = 2002 1 = 2001 2 = 2002
The second letter determines the month. The only year where the month is significant is 1995.

SC = Jan 1995SK = Feb 1995SD = Mar 1995SE = Apr 1995SL = May 1995SY = Jun 1995SS = Jul 1995ST = Aug 1995SJ = Sep 1995SU = Oct 1995SM = Nov 1995SP = Dec 1995
