Air filter protruding through bonnet
I find my self needing to have an air filter protruding through the bonnet to suit a down draught webber. Will a typical K&N pass SVA? Pipercross
do a domed top filter would this be a safer pass? Any experiences please.

Hi Nige,
Guess you're new, so welcome.
The airfilter should pass provided that the edges are radiused in accordance with the SVA requirements for external projections.
I don't have my book at hand so wouldn't like to give misleading numbers.
I'll have a look tonight - but maybe someone else may reply by then.

Thanks for your comments - especially Dave's tip re K&N casing edges. still unsure about the pipercross domed filter. This has a criss cross
webbing of chrome mesh cover all of which has "egdes" (of sorts). Will this be an issue? Is either filter less suseptable long term to
potential damage from rain etc? Nige

There is also a filter made by pipercross that has no mesh on it and is just soft foam. I have one on my car that came with the engine , it has
suffered some damage and the foam split so have glued it and will be replacing with the mesh covered type after SVA.
