DVLA Confusion.

Spoke with the man from Swansea as he said my local office don't take outside calls!!??

Asking him how I notify them of my chassis number and can I have a home inspection before SVA.

He said I'll send you a V5/55 and fill that in. He said the chassis number will come after SVA if I didn't have one and the DVLA inspection will definatly have to after SVA as well.

Totally goes against some peoples experiences on here and leaves me a little confused.

1. Does the car need to be finished before I fill in the V5/55?

2. Is it worth writing to Stockton DVLA notifying my chassis number? I have a bespoke chassis number from MNR.

Cheers,
Steve

My VIN plate was in my pocket for the SVA test so I don't think that will be a problem

I would phone Swansea again and ask them to get Stockton DVLA to give you a call. Then ask to speak to the person who looks after kit car registrations. The numpty at Swansea doesn't know what he's talking about.

The MAC at the SVA test is given for your VIN. How can you complete the MAC without it? IE how will they know that it was that car that was tested. Or will they accept any old MAC @ the vehicle registration???

what a load of muppets....

We had our chassis number long before SVA, also had the inspection before SVA. Car was insured on the chassis number on the way to the SVA.

In fact, the car was registered, taxed and driving the same day as the SVA.

Phone 'em back and ask again, you'll eventually find someone who will tell you what you want to hear

Fax your local DVLA (number on DVLA website) along the lines of:

blah blah

"I'm building an amateur built car, I would like to use the following chassis number:
example: 123456789123456

Please contact me to confirm this number is not in use and to arrange an inspection"

blah blah

Worked for me and a few others!

i faxed Stockton. Proposed a number and asked a few questions. Nice lady called me back next day (i then had her number - 01642 796611 - you didnt get it off me!!) and explained the registration process. Home visit was arranged. That was 2 years ago so dont know if process has changed. Car didnt need to be completed but did have to look like a semi finished car. If it was more road worthy she said i would have had to take it in after SVA.

Following SVA i handed the forms in and MAC and a short while later got reg number over phone (to complete insurance within deadline) and relevant forms in post.

Stockton made the process very painless for me. Are they your local office?
