FUEL PUMP

I dont know if this right but i have a zx900 ninja fuel pump pumping to a fuel pressure regulater piped to a carbed blackbird motor but when the engine is running you can hear the fuel pump clicking its like a tapping sound it does it for a few seconds and then stops then starts again is this normal admittedly there is not a huge amount of fuel in the tank as its not built fully yet.

regards mick

Mine (Fireblade) does this all the time.

These kind of pumps stop and start as they cut out when the pressure gets to about 2psi and then start again when it drops and just pump fuel like that.

I always think mine sounds like it's broken but it hasn't failed after 18 months so I just bought another cheap one on ebay as a spare just in case.

HTH,
Rich.

hi
if it sounds like this

click,click,click,click--------click-------------click

--------------------------------click

then its the normal thing as it builds up pressure and stops even more so if you have hardly any fuel in the tank

You most probably don't need the regulator in there either as the pump cuts out when there is any back pressure from your float valves.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
