Cost of SVA going up, and new rules on VIN numbers

From http://www.totalkitcar.com/home.php

SNIPPETS 2........The cost of a standard car SVA test is set to rise from £158 to £205 if new proposals are passed. MSVA will rise from £74 to £78. Oh, and our ‘guru’ of such matters tells me that local VROs have been told not to accept VIN numbers with the letters ‘Q’, ‘I’ and ‘Z’ in them, so beware of that when registering your kit.

How is it that the inflation figure stays at 3% when the cost of everything is going up by 33% ??

Yep, seems to happen to almost everything...except Hammersmith and Fulhams council tax which is going down again this year.

Because the official measure of inflation doesn't include those things. It's carefully chosen to measure only those things they can't get away with leaving out.
In fact the only purpose of the damn number I can see is when it's trotted out at pay review time to keep you from punching your managers lights out by not making it look quite so terrible.

Agreed - typical government fiddled statistics (just like the unemployment rate). A truer cost of living increase in to use the Retail Price Index which is around the 5% mark - generally 2% higher than the "official" inflation figure which excludes mortgages, petrol etc. Its all just a big con used by these politicians - you know..... those people in power who give tiny payrises to public sector workers who really deserve it on the premise of keeping down "inflation" and then vote to give themselves huge pay increases themselves.
