4 point harness eye bolts
My 4 point harness eye bolts have no markings to indicate their strength (i.e. 8.8 etc)
Are all of these type of bolts a particular rating (like cap or dome headed ones).
Or does the fact that an eye bolt has been designed for this type of purpose, so is just assumed to be up to the job ?
Just wondered what Mr SVA thinks

You can buy eyebolts that show their strength indicated/stamped on the side, a
typical indication for load would be SWL. (Safe working load). The test weight however is usually shown as well and is of course a lot higher. If you
buy from a reputable ironmonger he should be able to supply a forging certificate/tested load details where did u get yours from?

they came with my "Luke" 4 point racing harnesses. so they should be pukker items

No worries then, if the SVA inspector queries them show him the receipt, assuming of course its an "approved harness" which it is
ta ta the noo

Mind you I can just see it. The inspector saying "how do I know that the eye bolts came with the harnesses, I can't see any eye bolts on
the receipt". No I think I will go buy some marked ones just to be safe.
so 8.8 or 12.9 ?

i've heard they need written proof that the bolts are compliant...
cant see how eye bolts are used, wouldnt work with mine, i'm just using normal bolts to hold the belt down.

are not sva aproved that what i was told
by some tiger builders is this true?
or is it just the eye bolts that are not
stamped with 8.8 on?

Never heard that one..... i know loads of people with 4 point harnesses, that have passed the sva !!

Well there isn;t any difference between the 3 and the 4 point harness, except the 2 shoulder straps come together at the mounting, instead of mounting
separately. The strap bit that keeps it all together is the same. So i cant see any reason what-so-ever in 3 being allowed and 4 not.
Think someones been pulling your leg marshall !

Just spoke to Luke Harnesses and have been assured that their have been very few SVA issues with their harnesses. They said that the harnesses and eye
bolts are very over engineered. Also added that if Mr SVA queried on the test we could call them (Luke) and get the inspector to talk to their
engineers.

The issue with the harnesses and
SVA has always been down to the type of buckle used, not wether they're 3 or 4 point.
There are 3 (as far as I know) types of buckle - road, off road and FIA spec.
the latter two employ a twist function to release which is not e rated and technically is illegal for road use (haven't seen many rally drivers
get nicked though). The former is a push button release like a normal seat belt - this type has no problems with plod or SVA, just make sure the
wabbing has e marks.

Have been told the same as Marcus reports - it's all in the release system.
Example - I've got 3 point harnesses with 'conventional' releases (the same as normal seat belts) in my Fez and have had no problems
with MOT. Well, not about the belts anyway! I did have a copper pull me over having seen the old belt hanging up in the window. He got a few words
into a 'not wearing seat belt' lecture before he noticed the harnesses!

I've just had my Dax SVA'd and although it didn't pass (expected) the examiner didn't question the eye bolts or the 4 point
harness with the aircraft style twist release buckle.
Dax did say that some examiners ask to see proof of the eye bolt strength but I've not heard of that recently.

On my Luke 4 Points i have bought, a couple have 8.8 stamped on them and some dont. Ill use the ones that say it on the bolts they can see.
