Steering Headlights...
Probably quite a silly idea, and completely impractical but do you think this would get through SVA...
Mount the headlights to the cycle wing so they turn with the wheels... steering headlights ala citreon (and now merc).
Only drawbacks I can see are:
1. cycle wing brackets feeble enough as it is
2. maybe bit too prone to bouncing about, the beam would be flickering all over the place and the bulbs will probably blow much quicker
But, as a theoretical idea, do you think its a good or bad one??

I think they'd get shaken to bits, bulbs would blow frequently plus up the unsprung weight....
Appealing Idea though.
Not a clue about legality.

Yeah, I've been trying to think of ways to modernise the lights, not particularly keen on the bug eye look.
If I was gonna do it, I'd find some much smaller lights, probably twins - kind of in the vain of the current sports car vogue.

i thought about this - how about the lights mounted on a swivel in the normal place with a connecting rod going to the rear cycle wing stay ?

Mark 'what's his face' has done just that on the awful trike he's build on Sky TV.
James is using the twin small headlights, very nice they are too, but not cheap!

Steering headlights IIRC first appeared on the Citroen DS donkey's years ago.
As Jasper has said, Mark Evans has done it, and you could take that route rather than mounting them on the wishbones.
Mount them on the normal bar, but have swivel joints instead of bolts, then connect to steering with a couple of old handbrake cables (pull/pull)
sortof thing.

Go, I take it that you have never been on the road in a 7 style car ??
the first time you do you, It is very surprising how much your front wheels bob up and down, even on silky smooth roads they bounce up and down, and
unless you build the 4th bridge gantry to hold your mudgaurds on they will wibble and wobble all the time
also Is there not a max height that headlights can be mounted, I am not sva'd just mot,d and even then my first mot tester said he thought my
headlights were high

I have not lost one of my mudguards yet, much to Hicosts bewilderment, but it does amaze me that they are stlll attached
but I do have a cunning plan of attaching them to the supports without bolts or screws

I intend my car to be on opposite lock most of the time, I wouldn't be able to see where I was going! (or most probably where I had just come
from!!)
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Cateringvan front wings are stuck on with what looks like sikaflex, wouldn't have helped me though 'cos it was the stays that broke, and
the same happened to locodude.

Yep stay bolt broke on mine too, managed to stop before it flipped round and did any damage though

Coming back to the topic (you remember - headlights that turn with the steering) I just have this feeling that the SVA man may not like them...
...can't say why, as the manual doesn't specifically rule them out, but if the inspector takes a dislike to the idea then he may try and
find 101 ways to fail the mechanism.
Personally I don't see the point, as the whole essence of a 7 is its incredible simplicity. Keep it basic, reduce the bits that may be
unreliable, and enjoy the driving experience.
On the other hand, if this sort of thing rings your chimes, then have a go!

Just a few thoughts.
If the cunning plan is to 'glass them to the supports, DON'T 'cos the vibration gives you four lines,one each side of each stay of
star cracks, Robin hood tried that!
You could in theory fit headlamps to clamshell wing but they would look pants( and wouldn't steer of course)
I like the little projector lamps but they are pricey, if you fancy something different, what about the Dax Rush types, they're from a Citroen
