DVLA
Hi Guy's
I know this question has probably been asked a 1000 times, but I am totally confused. I have contacted my local DVLA asking for a chassis number, they
have sent me a a V55/5 and a form for filling in for the inspection. The DVLA have asked me to fill out the 2 forms, the V55/5 to me seems to relate
to an import rather than a kit car, get and resubmit my request and I quote "with an MOT, reciepts and any relavent info". I understood
that I required a VIN number for the SVA.
Could someone please clarify what the procedure is to get a VIN number.
many thanks, and sorry for asking the same questions again
John

I think the general rule with the DVLA is don't ask just do it. Often it seems they don't know and are just as confused as you maybe.
If the rules are the same as 2 years ago you can just make it up, I did. Basically 17 charachters no 0's. Mine is BLACKBURN/STUBBS1.
Stamp it on the chassis and then fill in your SVA application. DVLA don't need to know until you apply for registration.
HTH
I used to be apathetic but now I just don't care.

Sometimes they want to give you your VIN number, sometimes they prefer you to have chosen one....
but if you've chosen one for yourself and succesfully completed SVA unless that VIN is already in use there's very little they can do
about it other than winge and complain....

Picked up my forms from the Swansea office - They had a lady trained up on kit cars!
She gave me the forms and the VIN number and interestingly said that Swansea no longer need to inspect the car themselves for the VIN or engine number
as this has been done at the SVA.
She did also say that not all offices gave the same advice!

As said before on this site, seen at a kit car show, 2 YES TWO Luego's, both black, both V8's, Both registered, both have the SAME Chassis
number.
Beware of the Goldfish in the tulip mines. The ONLY defence against them is smoking peanut butter sandwiches.

I sent fax to local office and proposed a number. Had reply within a couple of days confirming it was OK to use.
