Named Drivers Under 25
This may well have been covered but i've searched and can't find much.
For the last 2 years we've been covered by I believe Sureterm for my dad as the policy holder (and owner of the car) and me (23 nearly 24 with
5years NCB and no claims) as a named driver. For what was left of the first year maybe 4 months the added about £60 to the premium so it was about
£180 for the year with 1500 miles
They then renewed the policy with us both on for about £160-180 agin for 1500 miles... we then asked how much for 3,000 miles and they came back with
a massive quote of about £380! so we told them to leave it as it is.
Now its come round for renewal again they want £248 for 1,500 miles again.. so I'm feeling a little cheated when I only pay £380 a year for
3,000 miles in my very hot hatch as the only driver.
So I rang my insurance company (Adrian Flux) and as I don't own the car they won't insure named drivers under 25
So any ideas who insures named drivers under 25 as i'm not the registered keeper..?
Just looked on Footman James and they appear to only insure over 25's, The worst thing is it runs out on saturday so whoever its with i've
got to impersponate my dad to get it as he's on holiday till after then! I get the feeling i'm going to have to bite the bullet and
renew with them

I've been with footman james since I was 22 (now 24) and haven't had a problem getting insured, might be worth phoning them

For a kit car?
How much were they chargeing?
Are you down as the owner tho or as a named driver.. this appears to be the sticking point.
You would have thought it would have been easier to get and be cheeper with my dad as the first name.

I'm currently looking into this, my son is 21 and i'm currently dealing with msm. They say they insure from 18years. I will let you know
what they say when they reply to my email. Check out their website for more info.

Cool, I might give them a ring in the morning.
See which permeatation of owner/insured/first name etc works best/
For the tintop I was even asking them what difference job descriptions made to the quote.. and suprisingly quite alot.
I've a gas service engineer which they didn't have so I tried Electrician, plumber, pipe fitter, and something else to do with gas to see
which was cheepest lol.
It just frustrates the hell outta me that i'm still having problems getting insure at nearly 24 with full NCB and no Convictions or Records...

got an email back from msn, for 3000 miles fully comp with 'dad' policy holder and 'son' named driver - £420 with breakdown
cover and £380 without breakdown cover. So looks pretty similar to yours though that is for a 21 yr old with 3yrs no claims not 24yrs...
So could be a little cheaper for you??
tbh its the only quote i have got thats not ££££'s or just a simple no so i'll probably go with it.
(PS, i sent them an email last friday and have just checked my emails)

I know if your in the motor trade (like me) they shove loads on.
Their excuse is as your in the trade you can make changes quite cheaply.
Also my renewals go up each year, so i just repurchase.
Always do mine on line.

Up to 2 years ago I was paying footman james for a "traders policy" and told them I bought and sold "in low volumes" and they
just told me to keep up-to-date their database as and when I sold motors.
I had up to 8 or 9 cars on the policy and they allowed for non-standard cars too. I just bought 4 or 5 cars in the local auctions over a matter of
months and sold them on too for similiar money. Some of the motors where mine and never came off the policy and nobody asked questions.
The policy was 320 for the year with unlimited mileage.... I was 24 when I opened the policy and closed the policy 2 years ago as I moved to France.
I renewed the policy for 5 years I think.
Footman James are really the dogs danglies when it comes to fair policies. They are not always the cheapest but they are definately a good all round
company.
Good luck...

I ended up renewing in the end as nobody I tried could come close.. most were nearer the £400 mark!
It'll be interesting next year tho when its up for renewal less that a month from my 25th birthday!.... something tells me I won't be
driving it for a month and it'll be the dryest hottest month on record!

Just to let you know adrian flux are a front for NIG, and footman and james use NIG when they insure kit cars!!
So i would play them off against each other i did...

Adrian Flux £380 with NIG
Footman £320 with NIG
rang adrian back £295
Rang footman back £238... and they said they would even give me free windscreen cover....that great but i dont have one!
