Road tax on a kit car next year

Hi all how is the road tax going to be done on kit cars in the future
mine has
3.5co
1200hc
year of reg 04
but on a G plate
at the moment i pay £101 six month tax

Exactly the same as it always has. One rate for engines up to 1549cc, higher rater for 1550cc upwards.

If so that is good, but why is it different to other cars and why do the mot station want to know the co and hc at mot time
have you seen this on a official site [ dvla ]

No cars have ever been (or will ever be) taxed on CO or HC. Modern cars are taxed on CO2 but it is not possible to measure this without extensive and expensive testing and equipment (which is done as part of type-approval on production cars). Thus old cars (pre 2001) and kit cars are taxed on engine size.

MOT testing of CO and HC is to check the engine is functioning correctly and not emitting noxious gases.
