DVLA change of engine number

I sent my log book off a couple of weeks ago to register the change of engine number from the CVH 1.8 to Zetec 1.8.

Got a letter back today saying they want 'proof' of the change, but are happy to accept a written confirmation on Garage letter headed paper.

They initially said I needed to get the garage who changed the engine to write a letter, but when I pointed out I had done it, and had in fact built the entire car, they said a letter from any garage would do.

It's a bit of a pain as I'll probably have to pay to get the letter, but more importantly if they really want to check on what I'm tellingthem, getting a letter from a garage is hardly that reliable!

some people might suggest writing your own letter - some people, but not me.

there are a few recent threads on this subject if you fancy doing a search.

Seems so stupid just for a change of engine number where you arent trying to get into a cheaper tax bracket - to make it hard for you to do the right thing. Makes you think of not telling them in future doesnt it!!

I'll need to do this soon. Fortunately we have a garage in the village who I've used for years so I'm sure they'll do it for me free of charge

Certainly does!
I read the previous threads, and also read what it said on the V5C, which was that if the CC was increasing there was no need to provide any evidence so really wasn't expecting it to be a problem.

Will this not cause you problems with proving the age of the engine as you will have to provide written evidence and the crossflow number will not mean anything to the Mazda garage. Be careful don't have a blonde moment

Neither are a problem as A - the car was SVA'd 8 years ago , and B - its not an engine that changed from year to year , so spare parts are not `age sensitive`

I may just change the capacity on the log book - unless I need reciepts/written proof/a note from my mum to do that.......
