Age Related Plate
Can someone advise me on the best way forward, my book chassis locost chassis is just taking shape so this is a long way off yet, but I would like an
age related plate. I stripped these major parts from mk 2 escort, rear axle, steering rack. Put in my name and applied for SORN,now scrapped but not
told DVLA. Have just taken Steering Column, wiring and front brakes from Sierra 1800 cc and want to use 2 litre and box from Granada. If I tell DVLA
fitted all to Escort, never put on road, then scrap it when ready and tell SVA all put in to locost do these count as original items on Escort for age
related plate ?

I have always thought of doing the same, The engine for SVA checks will always be tested for emissions depending on it's age not that of the
donor. You will need to get the vehicle checked at some point by the DVLA the confirm it exists. They will ask you to fill in a "build up
form" which will ask for the source of the parts. I think a lot of what you are asking depends of who does the check, if they just believe all
you say and tick the right boxes then your OK, if they know their stuff life gets a bit trickier. As regards saying the parts were fitted to the donor
before you took them off you will need to check with the DVLA. Try checking with someone who knows their stuff, too many guess if they don't
know. They start off with "I would think blah blah blah" and as we all know common sense has nothing to do with getting a reg plate on the
front of your car!
PS. Where abouts are you in London?

When I built mine, i used Escort rack/axle, Sierra engine gearbox and steering column, Cortina front uprights, at the time someone told me that you
need to use 3 major components from a donor to get an age related plate, so i told them the back axle came from the Sierra also ,was never asked any
questions...............
