Engine change process

I'm changing the engine in my MK at the moment and I thought I may as well send off the changes to my V5 now before it's finished as I'm guessing it'll take a few weeks. The new engine won't effect the tax bracket.

From the DVLA website:

DVLA will need written evidence of any changes to engine number and cylinder capacity (cc). Written evidence can be:

* a receipt for the replacement engine
* written evidence from the manufacturer
* an inspection report provided for insurance purposes
* written confirmation on headed paper from a garage if the change in engine size took place before you bought the vehicle

So a receipt is enough? I recall people mentioning getting a local garage to write a letter. If a receipt is enough then I need to try and track down the chap I bought it from on ebay but I can't see things I've won past 60 days

Or you could just write to MK telling them what you intend to do and ask them nicely asking for them to send you a letter stating that you've changed the engine.

Might be a totally different scenario, but I just wrote the zetec engine number and new capacity in the engine change box on the mgb reg doc, sent it off to dvla and it came back with no issues.....

If you paid on Paypal you may be able to track them that way or a good rummage through your feedback may give you an idea. even if it doesn't specifically say what the item was.

DEFFO send a receipt of sale - i know of 2 people that had issues with the dvla because of this - me one of them.. they needed a copy of the bill with engine number on it and address of seller.. then they were happy - must be to keep engine tracking

Just send off the v5, why make life hard, thats what it is there for.

I have upgraded landrovers to v8's and never had an issue doing it like this.

Even had one inspected after someone tried to steal the reg number as it had been sorn for two years.

Regards Mark

I tried to do this a couple of weeks ago - change from 1.8cvh to 1.8 zetec.

I just filled in the V5 with the changes and the DVLA rejected it. They said I needed either:

1. Letter from ford stating engine details based on engine number

1. letter from garage that installed engine [me??]

3. Letter from any old garage stating that the engine was what I said it was.

It's completely stupid as garages are hardly renown for being ultra trustworthy!

Got the revised V5 back today! So that turned out to be quite easy I didn't even have the receipt for the engine, only the paypal invoice for the engine delivery. Also a pic of the engine and a brief letter. Ha! Idiots! I win!
