Show plates
I've just had a letter at work from DVLA stating that from 1st November it'll be illegal to make a No plate that contains a VRM that
doesn't comply with the regulations. In other words no more "Show plates" or "Not for road use" and no slogans or
messages on the bottom. Previously it was only illegal to use them.
There'll be a £2500 fine for anybody making them so if you want some illegal plates get them before 1st November!

I see you can still buy the sticky numbers, now renamed 'Wheelie bin numbers'
With thousands dieing on the roads each year I'm glad the government has its priorities right.

I went for the legal route, proper number plate mounted correctly which was fine when the car was in SVA mode with the front at max ride height( I was
worried about headlight height). However, when I lowered the front and got the car standing level, the number plate hit the ground when the bonnet was
opened. Any higher and it would have blocked the grille. I have done the only possible thing and mounted the legal number plate in a non vertical and,
I believe in an illegal position, on the bonnet.
In my defence I would say that if it is all right for an E Type why not for my Phoenix. I'll let you know what they say after I've been
stopped!!

Another example of our govt. going after people doing something legally, than after the criminals...
Problem: crims getting dodgy plates made up to avoid being nicked for something.
Solution: make it more difficult for law-abiding people to legally buy a plate (you have to take your V5, and the plate has to have the makers details
on it).
the only problem is that criminals being criminals, they don't care about the law that already exists, and so will happily break the new one as
well. I expect that dodgy Jon in the pub will make up some for a fee, as long as they're not traceable back to him....
(When) will the government start actually targeting criminals, instead of criminalising / making money out of previously law-abiding people? makes me
soooooo angry!
Rant over.

I think this all about number plate recognition for the scameras. Aparently some of the fonts are a bit tricky and need manual reading. No real
reason other than revenue / tax maximisation. It's not about catching crims never has been IMHO.
