Buying an imported engine - SVA

Buying an imported engine - SVA

I am going to buy and engine to rebuild/tune as something to do until I am in a position to start building.

I’m am still undecided on BEC Vs CEC

I’m going towards the CEC at the moment

What potential problems are there with buying an engine/gearbox from an imported car?

I’m considering an MX5 engine and gearbox and there is a cheap imported engine on offer

all I’m thinking of is how to prove the age of the engine for SVA/IVA whatever its going to be called

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Matt

Might be worth asking Mazda Uk if they can provide the info you need, or if they can get the info from Japan.

Every Mazda MX5 etc is imported here in the first place so dont see why it should be any different proving the age of the engine for a grey import than a new car. Plenty of people have bought big V8's from the States so i cant see the problem in doing this.

Arent MX5 engines dirt cheap over here anyway??

By the way - go towards the BEC side - you know you want to...........

Here - have some inspiration...

I've actually done this for a Mazda Eunos engine - the imported MX5.

Mazda UK wouldn't help until I caused a right fuss then they just passed it on to Mazda in Japan. Mazda in Japan were very helpful and the info' finally got to me on Mazda headed note paper about 6 months after I contacted Mazda UK.

I paid Mazda UK £45 for the information back in 2002'ish.

What year of engine is it? If its post '95 then there's no proof needed, they'll just test to the 'cat specs.

Its Pre '95 as to avoid the more stringent emmisions
