No V5

The time has arrived to tackle the legal side and I would appreciate your opinions.

I have built my car from a MK 1 Escort doner and would like to get an age related plate but the previous owner can't find the V5, he is someone I know and there is no question of the car being any thing but legit.

Is it possible to register the car without the V5 (I have reg no, chassis plate and engine no) or do I have to wait the 4-6 weeks for a replacement V5 to arrive.

The other option is live with a Q plate.

4-6 weeks!? I'd lost the V5 for the car I've just sold but I got a replacement in about a week..... I just phoned them up, gave a few details and paid them £25 over the phone with a card - dead easy and like I said very quick

It is that quick if your name is on the V5 already but as a new keeper it takes longr as they write to the registered keeper for confirmation that your application is legit.

Just send it to him then sign it over to you.

As above - get the V5 in the original keepers name and then do the change of ownership as you would a normal purchase. Hopefully much simpler and should take a couple of weeks or so.

Get the original owner to get it sent to him and then he gives it to you. It does not have to be in your name when you take it to DVLA with all of the other paperwork.

My V5 was still in the original owners name and I had had it for over two years and had no problem using it. After all you want an age related plate but you will not get the donors actual reg number.

Thanks for the opinions, replacement V5 applied for.

Is there any one local to me who has been through SVA that would be willing to cast an eye over my car before I make the trip to Norwich in the next couple of weeks (beer/coffee and cakes supplied).

Thanks again Nick
