Driving to the SVA
Have 2nd SVA booked next Monday and Insurers have been chasing me for Reg number as it was insured on the VIN number after explaining that it was a
new build locost etc and I needed insurance for the SVA.
Insurers (Adrian Flux) now say I cannot drive it to SVA as insurance does not cover this and it must go on trailer!
Any experiences? How did anyone else getcover to drive to SVA?

you can drive to sva on chassis no,try explaining on phone that it failed first time,they should know about these thing!

Sorry to but in but just wondered if you drive there and it fails, is it legal to drive home??? cause in theory there saying your veichle would be un
suitable for the road. Would this be covered by the insurers???

its same as MOT - you can drive to mot and back regrdless of having an mot or passing or failing.
before registration, the insurnance will cover the car via its VIN number

Might be worth asking why they will not cover you. You are not comitting any offence by driving to the SVA so why no cover? I hope it's not
someone just deciding this because it sounds right without checking the small print.

Insurers will generally only insure on VIN for 28 days. As Alan states it was insured on VIN, they now want the Reg No. to continue with insurance...
Seems pretty simple to me they will no longer take the risk of insuring a car that not yet been allocated a registration mark. Insurance is all about
risk after all.
Answer: Change companies for a bit then change back once SVA passed...

Seabass is right about the 28/30 days. It made doing the improvements and retesting and DVLA stuff on mine quite tight timescale.
If you were not informed, why not tell them that they're the experts. But if they did tell you they will have the call recorded. And borrow a
trailer!!
Good luck with the retest - remember, any stress now will be worth it the first time you have a decent blat in it!!

there is no legal reason for the 28 day time limit so try convincing your inurance company.......
I bought a tax free car whilst posted to germany (army...) and because of the false plates issued to the forces it was not registered officially for
over 18 months, during that whole time I was insured on the vin number only. that was a 'bog standard' policy - not some special deal.

SeaBass is correct there but ask for an extension explining what going on. I had to do that and they gave me another 28 days which takes me up to 7th
of Feb to pass SVA and i don't have a date yet. If need be i can get hold of some trade plates and a driver (who owns trade plates) to get me to
SVA. Let's hope it's in Jan!! I applied just over a week ago so i'm not holding out much hope.

I was told you canot use trade plates unless the car is registered unless some
one knows better

i've seen new bimmers from the local garage driving with red trades plates and no number plates, so i assume these arent registered yet. not
sure though, but i thought that was the whole idea!

indeed, im not sure myself. an easy call to the local law shop?! then again, most cops probably dont know themselves!
