MOT post SVA for Q plates
Can anyone please give me a straight answer on this.
I purchased my car (Qplate) in April last year, with the MAC from June/july 2007. I have just had my RFL reminder on the door mat this morning, and
it is saying that I need an MOT.
No reminder for MOt in June/July last year and yet being asked for an MOT now.
Can anyone please tell me what the position is. Is spoke to the DVLA and they could not answer me, they suggested that I ring VOSA.
Do I or do I not need a MOT within the first 3 years of a MAC with a Q plate?

I would speak to VOSA its what i had to do they are miles ahead of DVLA and have the right info on there systems.
I believe you dont need an MOT but best to be sure by ringing VOSA

You do not need an MOT for 3 years. That is either from SVA or first registration, which is unclear.
Your road tax reminder will state that you need an MOT which is a system problem. You need to fill in a form saying you don't need one then go
to the post office to get a tax disc. I had to do this twice. Now that my car is 3 years old, I have an MOT which makes life easier.

When my first tax renewal came through the paperwork said that I needed an MOT, but I managed to tax the car using the automated telephone system
without one.
Give it a try.

i have a wriitten letter form my local dvla, saying i do not need a mot for 3 years as well local office told me, that i do not need one for 3
years.

I believe that you don't need one for the first 3 years. BUT, if the car has had one at any point, then you're "in the
system" and need one henceforth annually.
I bought my Q plate 1 year old. The builder MOT'd it before selling it, so I had to MOT it every year too.

You need the V112 filled out. Send it off with a cheque for your new road tax to your local DVLA office. Jobs a good'un.

Thanks folks, walked down to the local post office on Sat. Filled out a V112, got some strange looks for the person behind the counter, but done.
Have RFL for another year, without the MOT.
By the way Is spoke to VOSA, they said that I should not need an MOT, but DVLA have their own policies. Should they not match each other I ask?
"yes they should" was the reply.
He could not give me a policy number or anything formal I could refer to, if and when I spoke to the DVLA, but he did say, that their was a policy
decision at the DoT, in June/July 2006/7/or 8 to deal with this issue and the DVLA should be in line with this.
