is a Hand brake gaitor required for SVA??

is it?? ive got a sierra hand brake and ive cut a quite large hole out of the tunnel bout 1inch wide by 8 inchs long, there for when the handbrake is on you can get fingers into workings and into tunnel, although it is between the 2 seats??
