MOT - Fail steering collumn rubbing on engine!

the steering collumn is rubbing on the engine block, has anyone else had these problems in the mk indy (pinto engine)

help much appreciated

Surely something has moved since build as it would not have passed SVA like that.
Could be knackered engine mounts

Even with the standard Pinto alternator on a fabricated mount I've got more than 20mm clearance around the steering column.

just been out and had a look and it is the altenator mount its near, maybe 5mm its not rubbing but more knocking against it with the engine vibrations, ill get a pick up in a bit.

My Pinto alternator was only a couple of mm away from my column , so i changed from the standard belt 10x863 to a 10x850 as this was about a small as i could go, tight to slip over the pulley but fine when it's in place.

Mine has quite a bit of clearance.

I made a lower alternator mount which is in essence just a bracket like |____| and the bolt goes though. I use the standard sierra alternator. The belt its something like 795mm. Seems quite a bit of clearance.
