That's not mentioned on their website, I think that the person you were speaking to didn't have a clue about what you were doing.

There are so many inconsistencies and discrepancies in the way we, the paying customer, are delt with that the claim that the DVLA workforce are fully
trained is just a total and utter joke. Problem is that they are totally in the driving seat and we have no choice other than go to another office.
Perhaps we should start a section on here recommending or rejecting local DVLA offices. I will start with Carlisle; Stear Well Clear.

Maidstone are fantastic. Went there on the way home from sva, got it inspected and an hour later had my numberplate certificate in hand and was on the
phone ordering them from my local factors.

Good Idea. But it only takes a change of staff and things can change over night.
I registered my locost in Ipswich in Feb. with a lady who knew the rules
and the process could not have been easier.
Went there to do Tim,s Challenger in April and she had left and I spoke to a complete tw*t with not a clue on how to register a kit car, I thanked him
, left and went to Chelmsford, nice smooth process.

Chris, There is a velocity build manual from the old Luego that many shuod have on here - I'll see what I can find for you (thnk I might only
have the Viento but then again would they notice the difference?...)
Sorry to hear of your woes - my truly fantastic experience of building mine, going through the SVA and dealing with the very helpful kitcar people at
Brum DVLA was utterly ruined by the main office at Brum DVLA sitting on the tax disc and forms for a week meaning I missed Stoneleigh by 2 days...
EDIT: Chris - I have all of the sections but mostly Viento - big files but will happily email through if you PM address...

its just so annoying, and i fully agree that you could get one person who is great and then others who arn't...doesn't help though... for
all i know i could take the build manual nest time, and be told i don't need one!!
Neil that would be really helpful, and unless they are going to measure the bloody car i can't see them noticing, the only saving to this is
that i won't have to do it again....
i just want to drive it, its taken years.....

I have to agree, Maidstone were good for me as well.
Had inspection, 30 odd mins later away with new reg number and tax.
All within a couple of days of my SVA.

I had the same thing at Exeter, the office is only 500 yards from the SVA test centre, Terry the tester rang ahead to clear the way for me, and less
than 60 mins I had plates fitted - thouroughly recommended, even if you live in Arbroath, Scotlandshire
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

"Build plans? There aren't any! If I had build plans do you think I would have had to knock down half my house to get it out of the
kitchen then block our road off for three hours while a crane lugged it over onto the front? I just bolted one thing to another until it looked like a
car!"
I'd have probably got myself barred

Go back, Tell them you've asked dozens of people who've built and registered kit cars, checked through DVLA information on registered kit
cars, and checked the list of required things on the DVLA issued form for registering kit cars. Nowhere is a build plan know to be required as far as
you can see. Then ask them to show you where it says you require one. Don't leave untill they do or appologise for wasting your time.
Or go to another office.

I've done that with a lot of companies, amazing how they can spout all these "laws" and "terms and conditions" without
having the faintest idea where the evidence is

Stockton were fantastic, the girl behind the counter was all excited as she's never done one and I was out the office tax in hand with a new
number in double quick time.
They even waved me off after I told her and Kelly (the kit specialist) what a fantastic job they were doing.

And i couldnt disagree more. Total idiots. Didnt even know what a locost was. Wasnt allowed to call it a locost because it's apparently a
registered trademark.
Said age related plates were for "kit" cars only and not homebuilt.

As Adi said, stand your ground and insist that they speak to their boss at HQ. I don't personally know where bit is or I'd have contacted
them direct instead of suffering Manchester but they seem to know and seem to be set right.
