Partial view of lights

Quick question.
Trying to finalise the position of my front lights this afternoon. Over the full angle range of viability, do you have to see the whole of the light lens, or can it be partially obscured?
I'm mainly concerned with the side lights. Meant to have 45 degs inwards, but the nose cone gets in the way. You can still see the top of the lens from 45degs, but to see all the lens I'd have to raise the light pods really high, which would look stupid?
