IVA Manual states
Note 2: Plastic Fuel Tanks
Check that the fuel tank:

Is unmodified and an original fitment in the case of a mass produced vehicle or

Appears to have previously been fitted to a mass produced vehicle or

Is accompanied by satisfactory evidence provided by the tank manufacturer or approval authority showing that it has been manufactured and tested to
meet the standards required for road use.

Since many modern cars have plastic tanks I think the answer is yes.
Car Builder Solutions used to sell a plastic one to suit a '7' style car, but I think it was discontinued due to a leakage problem where a
metal insert was let into the tank for a fuel connection.
If you were to fabricate one using plastic welding a fuel compatible grade of plastic would have to be selected.
A look at a boat chandler's website will have plastic fuel tanks of about 20 to 30 litres which may suit your needs. They are clearly marked as
being suitable for fuel and not too expensive.

1)Surely according to the IVA manuall you cannot fabricate one yourself, unless its approved for road use. Which it wont be as you made it yourself
and have no approval.
2) Marked as suitable for fuel use BUT not marked or approved for use on the road.
Just my interpritation

A plastic tank has to go through various leakage, temperature, impact and burn tests to be approved, so no, you can't make one or fit a marine
one. The only plastic tanks that would be acceptable are ones taken from a production car.
