How long does it take the DVLA to give you an inspection date?
My car was MSVAed a few weeks ago and I went to apply for number plate, in person in Birmingham, a week last Friday. They sent me away, asking for
the plans of the chassis, which I drew up and posted on Monday last week. I've heard nothing back and was wondering, does it usually take them
a while to process the application?

It's DVLA; How long is a peice of string?
Why did they want chassis plans? Never heard of that before.

I was quoted two weeks by Lincoln office and three days by Beverley.
Go figure!!
I was told by 'mister jobs worth' that he couldn't do an inspection of the car straight away (even though I had it outside on a
trailer) as he wasn't allowed to do it without a police presence?!
I had to bring it back three days later to be met by mister jobs worth who looked at it on his own!
A days lost pay and a 80 mile round trip for nothing.
Oh he did put a high vis coat on though. And couldn't be bothered to look at the engine number as it meant climbing under the car so he just
took my word for it.
He wouldn't issue me with a certificate to get the plates made up but insisted on posting it out. It came next morning!
Un-believable.
Just be patient with them and smile

Considering all these local offices are closing I'm not surprised they can't really be arsed. I had a few issues at Glasgow but when I
actually got talking to the inspector he was brand new and couldn't be more helpful.

Don't worry, I'm sure he'll learn the ropes soon

I've had a letter from them today with an inspection date. In January. Does it have to take this long? 8 weeks. Seriously?
Edit - and you can't phone them. I've phoned Swansea who will email them asking them to ring me. What's the chance do you
think?

HHAAAAA!
The mind boggles as to what any of them would do with chassis plans

About as much as I thought. None. I'll try again tomorrow.

Complain to Swansea about delay, as it's clearly out of line with other offices.

They've just phoned me, which was a surprise. They say the 8th of January is both the first and last date they can offer before vehicle
inspections are moving to Worcester. As the local offices are being closed, staff are leaving and this is the only date they can do. I've got
to break the bad news to my insurance company now.

What planet are insurers on? I've just been on the phone to the underwriters to get them to extend the insurance on the chassis number until
the DVLA get round to inspecting it. I told them that the DVLA test is on the 8th of January and it will take them 2 or 3 days to allocate a
registration number. The underwriters then said they will extend cover until the 9th but will then cancel the policy as the risk is too high to
extend it to the 10th, for example. Can they not add up? The DVLA will allocate the number on the 10th or 11th so they will wait only until the 9th.
2 more days of the car being in the garrage is too risky? Come on!
