Donor car registration problem

I have recently purchased a 2nd donor Corolla GT. I intend to claim this car as the main donor when i apply for the age related plate.

The problem is that the guy i bought it from does not have the logbook anymore (it is genuine by the way, i know the cars history over the past 7-8 years), i do have the 'New Keepers Supplement' (V5/2) part, but it says not to send that to DVLA.

As far as i can see that leaves the only option to use the V62 form, which costs 19 pound. Obviously i dont want to pay this unless i really have to - any suggestions??

Is it worth sending the 'New Keepers Supplement' to the DVLA with a letter explaining that i recently bought the car and did not receive the other part of the logbook? or is that a waste of time.

I really want to use this car as it is a 'J' plate and i have a personal reg on retention which is also 'J' - it would be ideal to stick it on the Locost.

Any ideas appreciated.

I got my donor without V5, just went to the post office and asked for the form to get one. DVLA contacted the last registered keeper who accepted that I was the legitimate new keeper and 14 days later I recieved the V5 in the post.

If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

You can download the form from DVLAs site. It's a PDF and it's at http://www.dvla.gov.uk/forms/frms_vehicles.htm

If you read the print carefully on the V62, if you have the "new keepers supplement" then it is still free. If you don't then it's the 19 quid!

I did this with a car which I had the green slip but nothing else for a couple of weeks ago and it was free, no problems

Thanks for the replies.

So how do i go about getting the new reg document using the 'new keepers supplement'? Do i send it to the DVLA with a letter or take it to my local Post Office (who are generally useless and wont have a clue)?

Edit: Sorry, just read the form more closely and i need to send it to the DVLA

yep, you need to fill in the V62, fill in the appropriate boxes and tick the right bits around where it asks whether you want to pay or whether you have the "new keepers supplement" and then send it with the supplement stapled onto it to the DVLA.

Just out of interest. The form that i collected from my local PO is slightly different to the one available on the above link.

When i double checked last night, there was nothing on my form about exemptions, which there clearly is on the electronic forms above.

I assume that the electronic forms would be most up to date, so hopefully it will be OK.

I couldn't understand how i managed to miss the bit about exemptions when i read the form initially, but its cos it wasn't there............phew, thought i was getting even more scatty

It was the electronic one that I used a couple of weeks ago and it worked with no problems.
