Putting a pre built car through an Iva? help!!

Hello all, new member on here!!

I have been offered a locost race car, my question is, as it's already built but with no logbook or IVA, is it possible to get it through its test and put on the road? said car is quite a tatty example anyway and I plan on completely stripping it down and rebuilding it over winter. Do I have to document the build as I go along?

Help much appreciated!!

Ed

Strip it, then take 100's of photos as you build it back up again. Save all your receipts, get a receipt from whoever you got the car from detailing all the major parts, that is, not a receipt for a car.
Get creative with Word for any you haven't got

Thank you for taking the time to reply!!

What significance do the receipts have? The seller was not the original builder, but if he were to provide a piece of paper mentioning the sale of the engine, gearbox, rear axle, front hubs and steering column is it? I'm not fully understanding the receipts part and what is actually required?

Thanks!!

Ed

You have to prove that you built it yourself, photos and receipts are required and accepted as proof, the more the better.
I don't think that VOSA even look at them, but without them they will send your application back.
You will find it better to keep your sanity by just doing what they want, if you try to rationalise it you'll go bonkers

Ahhh I see. It's just a case of pleasing the 'man'. So with regards to the receipts, would one for all the parts be sufficient? or individual? What about the age of the parts, does this need mentioning at all?

I assume the chassis doesn't need a receipt as it's a home built locost?

One receipt listing all the parts is what I had, plus loads for nuts bolts ect, get him to put "Locost Chassis" on the receipt

Hi Ed.

What engine have you got there as you will need to know what emissions rules apply.

Spend some time browsing through this forum for information relating to the IVA, particularly with regard to radius edges, switchgear, lights etc. The more you research it on here the more you can learn from other people's experiences.

It'll be a 1300 x-flow currently but depending if I decide to compete with it or not I might change. Is it just the year of engine that concerns the emissions?

Hello Owelly!! It's been a few years?!
