Registering a car as an existing make?

As title, can you use an existing manufacturer name to register your car? The most obvious for a locost would be to register it as a Lotus, but I'm guessing it's not allowed?

I've seen a locost that has 'Ford' on the tax disc. To me that suggests it's still registered as it's donor car, but the ad suggests it's correctly registered (late 90's). Could he have gone through SVA and called it a Ford Locost?

Put the VRM into one of the many webbies that tell you the make and model.

entirely possible.
also possible that its pre sva, so just had to pass an mot.
used to quite lax back then, I know of one kit car, a moke alike, which they registered as a panel van.

really is down to looking at the document, and checking its not listed as ford escort/Sierra/Granada/Anglia, -virtually anything different from original doner would be good.

I guess some of the information lines up;

locost kit car

Although I have no idea what a Ford Terrier is!

I know what a Terrier was and it is very highly unlikely to be one.

Terrier was the name given to Len Terry's sports and racing cars.

As suspected, the car is incorrectly registered. It never left any Ford plant so shouldn't be a Ford.
