I got a pass !!!
Wehay, just to let people know, I got a retest pass today, so having started the build from a part built kit in 2004, sold it in 2006, bought back on
New Years day in 2020 and passed at my final retest today 13/04/2021.
What a saga !!
Gillingham test centre though were fantastic people and I would recommend them without hesitation. They are human and treat you as human and give
fabulous feedback on anything they don't see as approved.
Good luck to everyone else out there building cars, you'll get there in the end, and to all of you with kitcars getting them ready for the next
road trips, I hope to see you soon.

Well I could have, but I bottled out and borrowed a trailer for the retest after borrowing a transporter for the first test last year. 9 degrees is a
bit cold for an un-heated 7 without a windscreen and doors. There was a Caterham there previously who had driven it there from their Dartford head
office.

So having to Iva this year, last occasion being Sva,do I take it that’s it’s legal to drive to the test and back ?
Assume insurance is all you need ? Is it easy to insure a car without a reg.

Yeah correct, IVA's are std now, and as long as you have insurance based on your VIN/Chassis number you are allowed to drive your car there and
back , as long as you have the confidence in it !!
My conundrum was that if you break down on the way ( 46ml there and same back along motorways) , you loose your payment if you miss the test, if you
fail on something major, they may say you cannot drive it home so must be recovered. I am lucky though as I have friends who can lend me whats needed,
I just needed a tow vehicle this time though, which is now my company car

Well done Jason, that is an epic build from 2004 till now, albeit with a 14 yr break in the middle!
Just in time for the summer too.
Why do they call Port Harcourt "The Garden City"?...... Becauase they can't spell Stramash.

Back in 2004 when I drove to SVA and failed the first test I was being hassled by the insurance company to provide a reg number within a matter of
days, otherwise they would cancel the policy because I couldn't comply with the terms (which, incidentally, they hadn't explained to me at
the time). I never wanted to have to say yes to the dreaded question at renewal time '...and have you ever had an insurance policy
cancelled?'.
Anyway, it was a happy ending because I managed to pass the re-test and get a reg number. I still had to argue with the insurance company, and they
had to replay the telephone recordings, to prove they hadn't told me there was a one month maximum permitted gap between taking out the policy
against a chassis number and supplying the reg number.
Moral of the tale - it may be better to take the car to IVA uninsured on a trailer if you can. Or if insuring it, ask the insurance company if there
are any restrictions on the time between policy commencement and full registration.

Cheers all, yeah I can't stop smiling about getting the pass, I've send off my registration forms so hopefully I'll hear from them
soon about what I might have written wrong as well as how much I need to pay them to get the registration and tax implication.

Yes... same as every year!
Sadly it doesn't happen as often as I would like!

That's kind- thank you.
It's probably only a few focused hours needed really. It's just committing the time.
But there's various things that 'ought' to be done as well as the basics to get it legal.
