A simple guide to registering/SVAing please!

Morning All,

I have searched the archives and there doesn't seem to be any posts that give the definative answer to the final throws of your build before getting the hard work on the road.

I know this was discussed before but we could do with a FAQ section with a definative guide to the FAQ's.

I am now nearing completion of my Vorx, I was told I would need a home inspection before going for SVA. I called the DVLA they told me just to fill out a V55/4 which is know where to be seen on theor website.

What are the steps / forms I need to go through up to the point of getting this thing on the road?

PS. I am using Beverley SVA centre.

Many thanks,
Steve

I'm at the same stage. i phoned them and they told me to phone VOSA who then told me to phone DVLA. I phone DVLA a 2nd time and they then got the kit car person to call me. She sent out a V55/5 (registration application) and V627/1 (build up report). I am filling in as much as i can and then sending them back. Send a covering letter asking for an inspection.

They should then phone you for an appointment to see the car. They will either issue you with a chassis number or you can request a 17 digit one that you made yourself. In this case i would request your own number when writing to them in your covering letter. They may check and grant you that number but different offices do different things so they may/may not give you your own chassis number.

When you have the chassis number you can then book the SVA when ready. Any questions can be asked when you have your inspection.

If he pulls out rubber gloves then you have requested an inspection from the wrondepartment

Hope this helps. U2U me if you need more help as i'm doing the same as you.

This is what i did and it was so easy.

1. Wrote letter to local office. I included a couple of questions inc chassis number advice.
2. Very knowledgeable lady called me back next day. Home visit was arranged (car was not finished at the time therefore not road worthy. Had it been they would have wanted to see it at the office.
3. She came to house with all forms. completed build up inspection and helped me fill in the forms.
4. I downloaded SVA application form from internet (VOSA site) and sent it off with cheque.
5. Approx 2 weeks later SVA tester called me to arrange appointment.
6. Passed SVA on second attempt.
7. Sent forms and MAC to DVLA local office.
8. A few days later got registration.

For insurance i took it out 2 days before SVA. This gave me 2 weeks without registration number. I got the number from DVLA (phoned in ahead of post) on last day and completed insurance (ie had reg number put on system).

There were no problems at all. Its not as hard as some make out. I know some people have had to arrange build up inspection at SVA (new rule??) which is a bit trickier to arrange appointments - ie try and get home visit (DVLA were happy that it looked like a car when they came out).

DVLA need to see all your receipts. Log book for donor serves as donor receipt for age related.

Hope this helps.

Last time i had the SVA 1st which meant doing my own chassis number. After passing i went to my local DVLA off ice and passed everything over to the right department. A few days later a chap came out to inspect the car, was happy with the chassis number and then went away. A week later i got my reg documents and away we went.

This time i'm having it inspected 1st. Sent the paperwork of yesterday so just waiting for a phone call now for an appointment.
