Just fitted some of these...

Just fitted some of these top ball joint covers and they are really good. Nice and easy to fit, bit pricy though but anything for an easy life

Someone on here must know what these were originally intended for and who produced them before some enterprising chap decided to sell them as TRE covers.

I think they were always intended as what they are now sold as. These are dip mouldings and are cheap as chips to tool up - it's often used to produce concertina sections such as gear lever boots for industrial kit. Quality is below what Automotive would accept. To be fair 9.99 is a fair price given the set-up and relatively low volumes. If volumes were in the thousands you'd be buying them from the far east for 20-30p each.

Look like a larger version of the insulating boots you can buy for battery / solenoid terminals.

I bet they make them for big 12 or 24 volt terminals

I have a feeling these are terminal covers.
I think I have seen them on low voltage high current terminations in electric vehicles..Fork trucks etc.

Looks good....do you think they'd fit over the track rod ends on the steerin rack or do you not need to cover these for SVA.....Cheers Oli.

Oli, you don't need to cover the track rod ends as the SVA mans ball thingy cant get in there but i have put a nut cover on just in case.

They are something to do with electricl trunking too. The others they sell for covering the TRE thread and nut are cable gland shrouds.
