SVA Dossier

Last evening I was speaking to Scott at Rally Design about the problems some people have been having (particularly at Gillingham) with braided brake hoses.
He told me that he had been speaking to VOSA about this subject and they had told him that although there were guidlines at the end of the day it was down to the inspector to make a judgement as to the suitabillity of the brake lines.
There is no ruling regarding the type of end fitting (olive or swaged) the only guideline is that it should be tamper proof (wtf does that mean).
Scott went on to say that he was trying to compile a dossier of peoples experiences with SVA and asked for coppies of fail notices with comments (not a 3 act play) regarding the comments made by the examiners.
I'm not sure if he is starting a crusade to get some of the anomalies(spelling) sorted out or if it is just the start of a database to aid customers going for SVA.
Whatever the reason I'm sure it can only help.

Excellent news - as somebody about to embark on an SVA (1 month or so) this is good news.

It can only help the industry if the 'grey' guidelines were ratified a little bit more eagerly and gave clear and concise reasons for failure.

The trouble is - as there's a human element involved - it's always open to interpretation

But any re-inforcement of issues should help and it will also help us when dealing with manufacturers as they'll send out the correct documentation.

I have to say hats off to Merlin Motorsport - I ordered some brake hose from resevoir to master cylinder, they sent it and included the manufacturers specification sheet with the order

If you believe you're not crazy, whilst everybody is telling you, you are - then they are definitely wrong!

My reading would be that Tamper proof effectively rules out olive fittings
