Hazards - dash tellback
Hi , been wiring merrily away today & pretty much got everything working. I'm using a sierra column & stalks and a commercial
"wiring module". Anyway indicators work with ign on and hazards work with ign on or off. My only problem is that the wee light in the
hazard switch doesn't flash (because I've used the switch in a "non-sierra" way) With ignition on the indicator tellbacks both
flash (so you know it's the hazards. So I basically have no visual feedback of hazards when the ignition is off, though in this case you CAN
hear the flasher bomb ticking.
Finally the question.... Will this pass SVA?

No it won't pass SVA unless both (left and right) indicator lights are flashing, in IGN on and off position. If they do flash, then it's a
warning light, so then yes it will pass...
Chances are you've missed an earth for the warning bulb though...
Either way - an easy fix!

As long as you have a tell tale (both indicator lights are fine!) then SVA wont have an issue with it.

Ahh - if only it were an easy fix.... I'd actually have to dismantle the switch & alter the wee PCB inside...... yuk!
SVA manual says an audible tellback is fine & I would be arguing that the ticking of the flasher bomb IS exactly that (ignition is off so
everything else is silent .....)

Just thought. Where are you taking the feed for the indicator warning lights? Its usually taken from the indicator power wires, so the warning lights
should flash with the ign on or off!

unfortunately my dash is all farty and clever so the tellbacks are all progressively dimmed as the lights are switched on - i.e. the indicator
tellbacks don't work with the ignition off....
So - would the clicking of the flasher unit count as "audible feedback system" - otherwise I'll have to put another wee lightbulb
in.

that bulbs with 2 extra wires,
if needed with a diode in the other feed line.
Then it all will become a neat construction without 100lights..

I fitted a buzzer to my indicators as the light doesn't show up in bright daylight, cost me all of 98p and does the job nicely if not a little
annoyingly, you don't forget to cancel it now though .

not a bad idea peteff - I can combine that with a "you've left your bl**dy lights on buzz" - yeah I like it! - 2 diodes & a
cheap beeper - job's a good 'un!

If an audible telltale is ok, get a 99p buzzer module from maplin or somewhere to be on the safe side?

My indicator tell tale lights dont work with ign off (digidash2). I used savage hazard switch so wired that up with diode so it flashes with hazards
on when ign is off (and on to be precise). Other option is to fit a small led or as said a little piezo buzzer. The only problem with led route is
that you need a diode so you dont end up with all of the indicators flashing when you go left or right.
It is quite a simple fix - honest!

I presume you are switching a seperate earth to the flasher unit with your hazard switch as well as connecting the right and left circuits?
If so, rewire the warning light (diode and resistor bridged if it's an led) into the flasher earth wire that goes via the haz switch.
Should work regardless then

I'll be using the cheap buzzer solution. This will work in bright sunlight when lights/LEDs will be invisible. Thanks for all the replies
